It was not just hot today, it was absolutely roasting!!!! In fact I think this was not only the hottest day of this year, it is the hottest day in record for about 4/5 years!! Crazy times….usually by this time the weather has settled into a steady drizzle that lasts until October haha
Today’s mission was to make sure that at every stage of the walk the doggies were hydrated and as cool as possible. It is really not ideal weather to be walking pooches at all, but as long as they have plenty cold water to drink, stick to shady paths only and of course whenever possible go swimming then they can cope just fine. Today also really emphasises the importance of having short car journeys as a professional dog walker. It is far too hot for any dog to be in a vehicle for long. I made sure to lay out wet towels in the back for the dogs to lie on and to also literally soak the dogs coats with water, if they were not already wet from swimming, before allowing them back in the car. Soaking your dogs chest, neck, front legs and stomach with water is one of the easiest and fastest ways to cool them down and to help them keep cool in hot weather. Kangaroos in Australia keep cool in much the same way, by licking their front arms and soaking them in saliva. As the saliva evaporates it cools them down. Google that, its interesting
This is how hot it was today, I even went swimming in the river with the dogs!! Fully clothed and couldn’t care less haha Shame I could not take photos whilst in the water as Molly and Ella were taking it in turns to swim out to me, so cute
